Irish Pasties are savory hand-held pastries filled with seasoned meat, potatoes, and vegetables baked inside a golden crust.

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup cold butter, cubed
½ cup cold water
1 cup diced potatoes
½ cup chopped onion
½ cup grated carrot
¾ cup ground beef
½ teaspoon black pepper
1 egg, beaten for brushing

Instructions

  • Mix flour and salt in a bowl and cut in cold butter.

  • Add cold water gradually to form a dough and chill 30 minutes.

  • Combine potatoes, onion, carrot, beef, salt, and pepper for filling.

  • Roll dough and cut into circles.

  • Place filling on each circle and fold into half-moons.

  • Seal edges and brush with beaten egg.

  • Bake at 375°F for 35–40 minutes until golden.

Notes

Do not overfill the pastry to prevent leaks during baking.
